Born 13.09.06. Daughter
of Wilma Snorre (Snorre Næss) and Yankee-dahl (Roger Dahl), the second pup of six. Pedigree for Milla
Can be a bit of a loner - the 'cat' of the litter. Milla always makes me smile when she knows we're going training, as she shakes her head and sings in a most hilarious manner! Her first race as lead dog was aged 18 months. Milla can be a bit selective when it comes to eating, but she loves fish (back to the cat-reference...). Milla is a smart dog. If her chain gets wrapped around the post, she just glances at it, then works out which way to go, to get things untangled.
2010-11 season Bergebyløpet 2 x 80km - ran the first leg in lead, then rested for the second leg because of a sore wrist. Finnmarksløpet 500 km - 2 legs of 7 as lead dog, otherwise point and
wheel

Born 14.09.06. Daughter of Wilma Snorre (Snorre Næss) and Yankee-dahl (Roger Dahl), the fifth pup of six. Pedigree for Pirjo
Pirjo was the first of her litter to go out and explore. Lead dog for all of her siblings in the 2008 Bergeby race (6-dog span), where she learnt lots. A bit sensitive to folk who try to trick her, and very wary of men in baseball caps after an incident with a local farmer! Pirjo has quite a thin coat under her front legs, so is often seen wearing a bright pink t-shirt when out training or racing. 2010-11 season

Born 14.09.06. Son of Wilma Snorre (Snorre Næss) and Yankee-dahl (Roger Dahl), and the last to be born of the six. Pedigree for Riku
Riku is a big, strong dog, a fast learner and likes the responsibility of leading the span. He impressed me no end by remembering a place he'd been as a pup, whilst leading his team over a frozen lake. He knew where he was!
Riku likes to think he has taken on Yankee's mantle of being 'daddy of the kennel'. He's certainly one to warn me if anyone arrives at the house, but he's only wanting to protect me. Riku is a great eater, and has a lovely habit of spinning round 360 degrees when I give him his food, just like his dad did.
Riku once decided to pick a fight with an otter that he met in training, but it was Riku that came off worse. Hopefully he'll now remember that otters give a crafty nip!

2008-09 season Bergebyløpet 120 km (one race leg) - lead dog for the first half of the leg, but his attentions started to wander to his sister in the span behind him. Finnmarksløpet 500 km - span dog
Born 14.09.06. Daughter of Wilma Snorre (Snorre Næss) and Yankee-dahl (Roger Dahl), the third pup of six. Pedigree for Ruusa
Ruusa is a big female with the same markings as her father. Strong and patient, she's a dog that thinks, and is a safe bet to have in the lead. As a pup, she was the one that all the others followed. I think she's the most maternal of the flock, and is certainly good to run alongside new dogs in the team. When the dogs have been running loose in the yard, Ruusa loves to beat me back to her house. She'll dive in, then show her paw twice before she leans her head towards the opening, for me to fasten the chain. A real sense of humour! On the occasions I've forgotten to fasten her chain, Ruusa never wanders from her house, even if I'm busy serving food to all the dogs. 2010-11 seasonAlta 2-day race, 2 x 80km Bergebyløpet 2 x 80km No Finnmarksløpet this season for Ruusa - suspected kennel coughPasvik Trail 280 km 2009-10 seasonJarfjordløpet 72km - lead dog until half-way, then wheel dog Bergebyløpet 2 x 50km - rested to make way for the youngsters

Born 13.09.06. Son of Wilma Snorre (Snorre Næss) and Yankee-dahl (Roger Dahl), and the first-born. Pedigree for Seppo
Seppo is the philosopher of the litter - as a young pup, he was always sitting still and observing. He's a good companion, and loves spending time in the house. Seppo knows his responsibilities, but can be a bit distracted by the females, and likes to think he's a bit of a stud. A strong dog, but light on his feet. 2010-11 seasonAlta 2-day race, 2 x 80km Jarfjordløpet 72km Bergebyløpet 2 x 80km Finnmarksløpet 500 km Pasvik Trail 280 km

2008-09 season Tanaløpet 25 km - wheel dog Bergebyløpet 120 km (one race leg) - some good miles as lead dog, but then he got too full of male hormones to ignore the female dog behind him (actually his sister), so he got moved back in the span. Finnmarksløpet 500 km - team dog
Born 14.09.06. Daughter of Wilma Snorre (Snorre Næss) and Yankee-dahl (Roger Dahl), the fourth pup of six. Pedigree for Susi
Susi is Finnish for wolf, and she lives up to her name, with a pure wolf howl. She enjoys being a house dog when she gets the chance. A real survivor. Susi is a real beauty, but she has a bit of a temper, especially when the other females dare to be in heat. Susi was the real star for my first Finnmark race, as she went as lead dog for most of the way, in unknown territory, just two-and-a-half years' old. 2010-11 season
Alta 2-day race, 2 x 80km Jarfjordløpet 72km Bergebyløpet 2 x 80km Finnmarksløpet 500 km - completed 340km to Jergul, then rested because of slight dehydration. Pasvik Trail 280 km

Born 25.11.06. Son of Baskabut's Bessi (Baskabut Huskies) and most probably Bolfe (Aila Sarre, Krister H öök). Pedigree for Billy
Billy is a real softie, but a hard worker, too. He loves to be fussed, though he can be a bit sceptical of new folk. Likes to make the first move. Brother to Katie. Billy finally got his chance to do a long race during the 2010-11 season. He can be a bit reticent when I choose him as lead dog, but once we're off and away, he doesn't stop working. Great at finding trails, even when I don't know they are there! 2010-11 season
Alta 2-day race, 2 x 80km Jarfjordløpet 72km Bergebyløpet 2 x 80km Finnmarksløpet 500 km - 3 legs of 7 as lead dog Pasvik Trail - dropped at first checkpoint because of a lung infection
2009-10 seasonJarfjordløpet 72km - rested to make way for the youngstersBergebyløpet 2 x 50km - lead dog for first leg, then team dog 2008-09 seasonBilly missed out on the Bergeby race. He had stepped over the gangline in training, got a bit of a friction burn from the rope on the inside of his thigh, and it wasn't worth risking him in the extreme cold of the race. Billy then missed out on the Finnmark race as well, after my handler, Vidar, lost hold of him, 3 days before the race. Billy disappeared off into the hills, and was found by us, thin and scared, on the day we left for Alta. So not the greatest race season....
Born 25.11.06. Daughter of Baskabut's Bessi (Baskabut Huskies) and most probably Bolfe (Aila Sarre, Krister H öök). Pedigree for Katie
Katie has the same ice-blue eyes and and mascara as her mum. Eats and drinks everything, and is a hard worker in the span. Katie hates stopping for breaks, and could well learn to chill out when we're not moving. Sister to Billy. Katie met an otter one day in the trail, and it proved too much of a distraction for her to ignore. After that, her ears would go up at the sight of every tree stump or clump of grass that remotely resembled an otter. Daft muppet! 2010-11 season

Born 07.06.08. Daughter of Tixie's Louise (Ingrid Wiik & Bjørn Haugbjørg) and Kynndalen's Marius (Bjørnar Andersen). Pedigree for Leila
Sister to Logan. Likes to think that she's faster than him, but she always lets him catch up.
Leila used to try to be a demanding little madam, and it took her some time to realise that the tactic doesn't work! The week beginning 16 Feb 2009, she uttered her first adult-sounding woof.
High hopes for Leila - she's not one to draw attention to herself in the dog-span. She leads the team without any problem, and is developing a good ear for commands when we train out of the trails. 2010-11 season
Jarfjordløpet 72km Bergebyløpet 2 x 80km Finnmarksløpet 500 km - Leila's first long race, from start to finish Pasvik Trail 280 km 2009-10 season Jarfjordløpet 72km: rested, as she was in heat

Born 07.06.08. Son of Tixie's Louise (Ingrid Wiik & Bjørn Haugbjørg) and Kynndalen's Marius (Bjørnar Andersen). Pedigree for Logan
Brother to Leila. The only male in the litter, so I was lucky to get him. Powder blue eyes and a silky black coat. He's a big fella - the kennel's giraffe!
I often put Logan alone in the span. If we're going a bit slower than usual, or he gets a foot caught over a wrong line, he can get a bit het-up, and has a real go at the neighbouring dog. He's a bit of an angry young man, really, but more so if he gets frustrated, rather than with any of the other dogs. 2009-10 season Jarfjordløpet 72km - span dog - debut race Bergebyløpet 2 x 50km - span dog Finnmarksløpet 500 km - span dog, right to the finish. Good lad!
Born 14.08.09. Daughter of Skogen's Berta (Øyvind Skogen) and Handsome (Lance Mackey). Pedigree for Kippax
Kippax's dad ran 3x Iditarod and 3x Yukon Quest for Lance Mackey, and was the best dog during the 2008 Iditarod. Not a bad lineage.... Pretty hopeful on her mum's side, too! Kippax has very similar colouring to her dad, although she's got the same pointed ears as her mum. Kippax is a real toughie. As a pup, she was not afraid to launch herself, missile-like, at either the other dogs or me, to test the reaction!
Kippax was only just over 18 months of age for the 2011 Finnmark race. Dogs have to be 18 months' old to race, but I think it's still a bit young for them to race. It's a shame for Kippax to miss out on the race season, after all the good training she's put in, but I don't want to ruin her for the future. Her time will come!
Skogen's Kippax was sponsored in the 2010-11 season by Tor Sønsteby, leader of MCFC Official Supporters Club, Scandinavian branch.
Born 12.09.2009. Son of Lukas (Are Baker) and Kenai (Robert Sørlie). Pedigree for Manus
Manus arrived at the kennel in late February 2011. The first time I offered him a meat snack, he nearly bit off my hand! I'd forgotten that some dogs can be so eager to eat! Since then, I train Manus' athleticism by getting him to catch food from all directions. He would make a great goalkeeper! Apart from his enthusiasm for eating, he works well in the team, and has a good coat. He comes from good lines, but has only one testicle, so I shouldn't breed from him. It doesn't stop some of my females taking a fancy to him, though!
Wilma Snorre (1997-2009), daughter of Raja (Snorre Næss) and Lingo (P.O. Gausereide). Pedigree for Wilma
Wilma was the grand old lady of the kennel, and one of my original three dogs. Wilma had razor sharp instincts and could find a sled trail, even in thick fog or when it was covered with deep snow. With Wilma in the lead, I could go anywhere with a sled. Wilma completed several Finnmarksløpet 500km and 1000km races with her previous owners, including as lead dog. She was a loyal companion, a great lead dog, and a fantastic mum to her pups. Wilma was over 12 years of age when the time came for a one-way journey to the vet. Yankee-dahl (1999-2010), son of Peary (H. Tunheim) and Jarvi (T. Aunevik). Pedigree for Yankee
King of the dog yard, big daddy to the whole pack, and a certain tester of whether one of the females was in heat. Yankee was a lovely, strong dog, but would sometimes resist at leading the team, particularly a big team. Yankee spent his last few months with Vidar Aastrøm, helping his kennel on their way. In the end, he just got sick and withdrawn, and the time was right to put him down.
Baskabuts Bessi (2005-), daughter of Dee (Dag Torulf Olsen) and Talludden's Cowboy (K. Rörstr Bessi was a few months old when I started work as a kennel help at Baskabut Huskies. A small, blonde female with ice-blue eyes, she was a real stunner, and always interested in what was going on around her. One of her favourite poses was standing on her hind legs like a circus pony, greeting visitors to the yard. I sold Bessi to Jan Øystein Dervø in 2008, but borrowed her back again when I was a dog short for my first Finnmark race. Tommo (2006-2007) The third pup that I kept from the Bessi/Bolfe litter. A grey pup, he looked like a little Siberian. Unfortunately, the weekend he was due to take his first trip in the team, he swallowed two stones. He brought one up again, but the other was stuck in his gut. It was a heartbreaking one-way trip to the vet.
Maniac Athletes Fletcher Came to Høyvik as a one-year-old in full heat, and didn't endear herself to the other females by presenting herself to the males. A nervous dog, she just didn't settle in the dog yard, though I did get her to work harder in the team. She's now enjoying life in a small kennel in Pasvik, a completely changed dog.
